Graduation Day at Maisha Mazuri Primary School

Wednesday, October 25: it was a big day for the students at Maisha Mazuri Primary School, as three classes gathered for their graduation ceremony. The so-called PP2 class graduated from kindergarten into primary school. Under the new school model, Class 6 has now completed primary school and will start Junior School in January; although this is still located on the same grounds and in the same buildings as the primary school, it operates under a completely different concept. And then this year, there was the very last Class 8—the students who are now moving on to secondary school, the “big kids” aged 14 and older. For them, school life is starting at a brand-new boarding school with a new environment, new teachers, and a new system. There is a lot of joy all around. The enthusiasm on this day is also great, with poems recited and songs sung for parents, visitors, and the other students. Certificates are ceremoniously handed out, and countless photos are taken. Even those who aren’t graduating have important roles to play, whether it’s raising the flag, welcoming the guests of honor, or handing out cake. By the time everyone sits down for lunch together, everyone is equal again and gets their share. It was an exciting day for the entire school community and a great start to the long break—if it weren’t for the exams for our Class 6 and 8 candidates, which unfortunately still follow the celebration… good luck to all the “candidates”!
