On October 21, 2023, our circle of active members met, along with several association members who accepted the invitation to the subsequent regular Annual General Meeting.
Since the agenda was packed once again, we started directly with the Academy of Maisha Mazuri & Boarding School and urgent topics such as improving grades, exchange and communication between students, teachers, and management, frequent teacher turnover, and the recurring issue of facility maintenance.
Afterward, Kathrin Walk and Elisabeth Hauber presented the volunteer planning for the coming six months. Fortunately, there is great interest in working on-site, so only one spot remains available until next summer. More spots will be available starting in the fall.
Our circle of active members is also enjoying energetic new support, allowing us to redistribute tasks and responsibilities. We are very grateful for a team of different ages and new ideas.
Britta Wittmann started the Annual General Meeting with a great photo report, filled with the latest information from her stay on-site (see also her reports under the Internship Reports section). The association’s activities in Germany over the past two years, as well as the most important changes on-site in Kenya, were the subject of the progress report presented by Barbara Krohne, supported by many photos. Helen Milkau gave a brief update on the Maisha Mazuri partner program and the number of partners. This was followed by a detailed presentation of the financial situation and the treasurer’s report (which was also confirmed by the auditors), leading to the unanimous discharge of the entire board (Barbara Krohne, Anita Wimmer, Helen Milkau) by those present. With great applause, our three “bosses” were released from their duties and then immediately re-elected, as all three made themselves available again for another two years. Thank you so much for that!
The atmosphere and service at the Hotel and Gasthof Neuwirt in Hallbergmoos were just right, and in the end, many questions and ideas were exchanged during a cozy dinner together.
A big thank you to everyone who was there and to the entire team at Gasthof Neuwirt.
