Just in time for the 20th anniversary of our association Hand in Hand für Kenia e.V., Barbara Hansen’s novel Autumn’s spring. An autumn full of spring was released – a wonderful novel that takes readers into the daily life of a children’s home in Kenya and into the cultural, social, and not least, very personal challenges faced by a young woman who wants to adopt two children. It is a narrative that addresses real difficulties with great appreciation and humor, skillfully blending personal experiences with fiction.
Barbara Hansen and her husband Jürgen, along with six other dedicated individuals, founded the association Hand in Hand für Kenia e.V. in 2005, which established the children’s home Wajibu Wetu and supported it until it became independent in 2014. In 2015, the association, together with the Kenyan organization Youth Support Kenya, founded the Maisha Mazuri Children Home, and in 2019, the Academy of Maisha Mazuri. Although Barbara handed over the chairmanship of the association to a successor trio in 2016, she continues to dedicate her energy and interest to the concerns of the association and its projects.
