“New kids on the block” – 2026

In 2026, we were able to welcome eight new children between the ages of 7 and 13 to the MCC children’s home. This was possible because spots became available at MCC after a large number of children successfully completed Junior Secondary last school year and moved on to secondary schools in January. As is common in Kenya, they are staying in boarding schools there. They continue to be cared for by our team and supported by their sponsors until they have also completed Senior Secondary and subsequent vocational training or university studies. This way, we can give these young people the chance to shape their own independent futures.

Our ‘newcomers’ attend Maisha Mazuri Primary School. They have settled in well at MCC and the new school, and they help out with MCC routines like doing the dishes together and taking care of the chickens and rabbits in small teams. They have found new friends in the MCC community and participate in all activities with great enthusiasm. They especially love playing soccer together—and are excitedly following the World Cup on the caregivers’ cell phones!

Furthermore, another child was newly admitted to the Maisha Mazuri partner program; they live at home and are able to attend a specialized school thanks to the support.

With Hellen as an on-site intern, we have also found a valuable addition to the team who supports the children with understanding and assists our staff. She was at MCC herself as a girl and therefore knows both sides! We are very proud that she decided to gain further experience with us after her training as a community worker.

We would like to thank all our sponsors and are happy that we were able to gain three new sponsors. Further support is welcome to help our new kids on their way to an independent life!
