In early March, Kenya was hit by severe weather; heavy rainfall and flooding affected approximately half of the country, including Nairobi. It was a challenge for our Secondary School team (Academy of Maisha Mazuri – AMM) to celebrate Prize Giving Day 2026 under these circumstances. Several hurdles had to be overcome: many students and parents were unable to travel due to the weather and road conditions, the program had to be shortened, and the event started late.

Ultimately, however, what matters is that the graduates could be honored for their achievements. Particularly outstanding were the five students who, with a C+ grade or better, earned direct admission to university, and were also rewarded with a complimentary laptop each.

Further rewards for high-achieving students included leather school bags, pencil cases, or water bottles. Even the cleanest dormitory room was celebrated. Additionally, the teachers who contributed to the positive results received a financial bonus.

Without Hand in Hand für Kenia e.V., this level of recognition would not be possible. The entire team and all local participants sincerely thank you for the valuable and motivating gifts.
Incidentally, contrary to the weather forecast, the sun even broke through occasionally throughout the day!
